Video: Romney Distorts Obama’s Words

And, incredibly, Jon Stewart went along with the distortion last night on The Daily Show to make a point about gaffes. If he had played the entire part of the speech, it was plain Obama was talking about the private sector doing ‘fine’ compared to the public sector.

Today’s Quotes: Romney Did Say He Loves to Fire People

“He [Obama] wants another stimulus, he wants to hire more government workers. He says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It’s time for us to cut back on government and help the American people.”
Mitt Romney, June 8, 2012.

“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
Preamble to the U.S. Constitution [Emphasis mine.]

“This time, however, Romney deserves points for honesty: He has forthrightly declared that the class of government workers holding back other Americans does include cops, firefighters and teachers. And in so doing, he has singlehandedly reframed the debate from one over despised government bureaucrats to one over whether we should hire more cops, firefighters and teachers to get the economy going. This is a debate the White House will be happy to have.”
– Greg Sargent, The Plum Line, Washington Post, June 8, 2012.

“We’ve been down this road before. Fewer firefighters and we’ll have more towns burning to the ground; fewer police officers insure crime will proliferate; fewer teachers guarantee a future of ignorance and low-paying jobs. This is the country Romney thinks Americans want?”

Video: Crazy Florida Pastor Terry Jones Hangs Obama in Effigy

This is the same nutcase who burned a Koran and got enough media attention to make a small fortune in donations out of the stunt. Here’s his recent attempt to pad his bank account.

Today’s Music: Pinetop Smith, Hazel Scott, Joey Dee

Clarence “Pinetop” Smith, the ‘King of Boogie-Woogie Piano,’ was born today in 1904. Even though he died young in 1929, the influence of his piano style can still be heard today, along with this tune, first recorded in 1928.

The incredible jazz/classical pianist and vocalist Hazel Scott was born in Trinidad in 1920 (d. 1981).

And here she plays two pianos and sings:

Joey Dee, of Joey Dee and the Starliters, was born this day in 1940. Between him and Chubby Checker, they are responsible for the ‘Twist’ dance craze of the early 1960s.
