Today’s Music: Charlie Parker, Dinah Washington
One of the greatest musical geniuses of the 20th century, and a sax player who changed the way not only saxophonists played their instrument, but other musicians as well, Charlie “Bird” Parker was born today in 1920 (d. 1955). A few videos don’t do him justice; go to YouTube and listen to some of Bird’s other work.
The ‘Queen of the Blues’ (and jazz) Dinah Washington was born today in 1924 (d. 1963). Dinah also had considerable influence over vocalists of varied genres.
Also born today in 1958, pop star Michael Jackson (d. 2009). You’ll find his videos all over the Internet.
