Rove Attempts to Smear Warren and Fails

The viperous Karl Rove’s nasty little M.O. is to go after his opponent’s strength — think John Kerry’s war record and heroic action where he saved a soldier’s life under fire in Vietnam — and twist it around until most voters believe the opposite of the truth.

Elizabeth Warren, presently ahead in the polls over Wall Street Golden Boy Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA), is a tireless crusader for consumer rights and regulating Wall Street, the banks and big corporations. Of course, Bush’s Brain, after failing to smear Warren by connecting her to the OWS Movement (turns out OWS is pretty popular in Massachusetts) went the other way and absurdly suggested that she was on the side of Wall Street against the middle class. (Uh, no, that would actually be Republican Scott Brown.) Rove’s used this despicable ploy so often it’s growing wrinkles, but I have a feeling it isn’t going to work this time around. Brown is a lazy sports-bar lunkhead and statehouse backbencher who lucked into Ted Kennedy’s old Senate seat thanks to Democrat Martha Coakley’s terrible campaign and a low Dem turnout. He won’t be so lucky this time around with Warren on his trail. The age of slimeball Rove is over, but it will take a while for that fact to catch up to him. (Seems Karl’s always behind on the truth.)

Elizabeth Warren responds to Rove’s sleazy ad as “factually wrong and morally wrong”:

Was Mitt Romney Arrested for Gambling on Cock Fighting in 1967?

This is a satire, folks, although entirely believable.

Rick Perry’s Ignorant ‘War on Christians’ Gambit

He should be ashamed to admit he’s a Christian when he’s spreading this kind of crapola. Hint to Perry: Children can already pray quietly in public school; he or she just can’t force others to share the prayer. They can also celebrate Christmas in school; they just can’t compel other students to celebrate it as well. The nation prospered from its Constitution guaranteeing equal treatment under the law and not faith in an Invisible Super Being. If Perry ever bothered to read the thing, he’d realize it separates church and state, and does not underwrite a quasi-theocracy led by a dumbshit cowboy who thinks he can dictate values and faith from the Oval Office. Rick, you’re running for president, not Pope.

GOP Comedy Tour Continues Apace

With Herman Cain bowing out, I was afraid Mitt and Newt wouldn’t be up to adequately filling the Republican barrel o’ laughs, but I’m glad to say I was wrong. True, the Romney boy needed some help, but at least he got it from an experienced old hand at political ridiculousness.

BTW, Mitt — you’re no John F. Kennedy, either.

This Wouldn’t Work in Washington…

Here’s a jaunty little video of a man releasing a bunch of poisonous snakes at a government office in India to protest them accepting bribes. This wouldn’t work in Washington, though — most of our elected officials would just hire the snakes as campaign operatives.

George Lakoff on OWS Luntz-Speak

I don’t know if I agree with Lakoff entirely — the word ‘capitalism,’ for example, is not necessarily that popular these days, although I prefer ‘crapitalism’ to decribe the economic system in play in most parts of the world — and I also don’t think that Luntz’s talking points will work this time around; times are too hard for Luntz’s word games. Still, Lakoff has some interesting ideas to consider.

Conservative Frank Luntz Has Set a Trap for Progressives — Here’s How to Outsmart Him and Boost the Occupy MovementProgressives’ basic morality needs to be talked about over and over again, in every corner of the country.

Progressives had some fun last week with Frank Luntz, who told the Republican Governors’ Association that he was scared to death of the Occupy movement and recommended language to combat what the movement had achieved. But the progressive critics mostly just laughed, said his language wouldn’t work, and assumed that if Luntz was scared, everything was hunky-dory. Just keep on saying the words Luntz doesn’t like: capitalism, tax the rich, etc.

It’s a trap.

When Luntz says he is “scared to death,” he means that the Republicans who hire him are scared to death and he can profit from that fear by offering them new language. Luntz is clever. Yes, Republicans are scared. But there needs to be a serious discussion of both Luntz’s remarks and the progressive non-response.

What has been learned from the brain and cognitive sciences is that words are defined by fixed frames we use in thinking, frames come in hierarchical systems, and political frames are defined in moral terms, where “morality” is very different for conservatives and progressives. What lies behind the Occupy movement is moral view of democracy: Democracy is about citizens caring about each other and acting responsibly both socially and personally. This requires a robust Public empowering and protecting everyone equally. Both private success and personal freedom depend on such a Public. Every critique and proposal of the Occupy movement fits this moral view, which happens to be the progressive moral view.

Christopublican Video Game Slaughters Atheists and Jews If They Won’t Convert

Is this part of the ‘War On Those Who Don’t Celebrate Christmas’? Gee, just imagine the on-air stroke Bill O’Reilly would have if an atheist designed a game that killed Christians for not abandoning their god. More hypocrisy from the masters of the practice.

Video game where Jews and Atheists must be killed or converted due for Christmas

by J.D. Griffioen
ParentDish.com

A video game about a Christian militia slaughtering Jewish and atheist New Yorkers who won’t be converted in the name of a particular brand of Christianity will be on the shelves of more than 10,000 American retailers in time for the Christmas season, including Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, Circuit City, GameStop, EB Games, CompUSA, Amazon.com, Costco and numerous others. The video game is a spinoff of the wildly successful collaborative novels about “the rapture” by conservative fundamentalist minister Tim Lahaye and the guy who used to write the dialogue for the Gil Thorpe comic strip, Jerry Jenkins.

In Left Behind: Eternal Forces, kids will assume the role of a member of a “Christian” gang wandering the streets of a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, killing or converting as many Jews, Atheists, and other unsavory types in the employ of the Anti-Christ as possible to get to the next level. If the heathen won’t convert, the character can kill them. The company is offering a free demonstration model to churches. “We see it as a beacon of light that could shine in the dark world of video games,” said Jerome Mikulich, “director of outreach ministries” for the company. “The most important thing is that it helps kids realize there is power in the spirit world, and that by praying they can endure and get through their real-life situations.” Praying, and putting a shotgun in the mouth of Jews. Just like all those chapters in the gospel where Jesus preaches that the way to salvation is busting a cap into the ass of those who won’t convert.
