Today’s Music: “I’m Drunk on Tuesdays” by 4 On The Floor

These guys look like they’re having fun on Twin Cities Radio. The band’s name is ‘4 On The Floor’ and I guess we know how they got on the floor, judging by the title of the tune.

Duckworth Will Trounce Loudmouth Nutjob Walsh in 2012

If you don’t know about Teabagger Congressman Rep. Joe Walsh from Illinois, you’re probably better off for it. He’s a more-mouth-than-brains nutcase who screams at his constituents and spouts all sorts of crapola right-wing nonsense. A typical Republican hypocrite, he also struts around like Mr. Family Values while he cheats his wife and kids out of child support he can easily afford on his $174,000 a year Congressional salary. His Dem opponent Tammy Duckworth, meanwhile, is a veteran who lost both legs in combat, doesn’t scream at people, doesn’t buy into party-line nonsense, and believes in helping average people rather than further rewarding the wealthy. Freshman moron Walsh has managed to irritate just about everyone he comes in contact with, so it would seem a lock for Duckworth in 2012. Here’s more from Progress Illinois:

Duckworth Ready To Go Up Against ‘Screaming’ Joe Walsh (VIDEO)

Democratic candidate for the 8th congressional district Tammy Duckworth released a video today depicting the differences between her and incumbent Joe Walsh (R).

After showing a clip of Walsh declaring “we are at war in this country,” Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran who lost her legs in combat, added that “going on Fox News and spouting Tea Party slogans is not fighting for your country.”

Take a look:

Last week, Walsh announced his decision to run in the 8th district instead of the 14th district, which is where his home is currently located under the district remap. Duckworth also points out in the video that Walsh’s bounce back to the 8th district was spurred by a reported $3.5 million in fundraising assistance promised by Speaker John Boehner (R). A spokesman for Boehner denied the report, but a rep for the National Republican Congressional Committee told Politico that they do expect Walsh to get some form of financial assistance from the party.

Gingrich Misleading About ‘Janitor’ and Teacher Pay in New York

Set down any hot liquids before I reveal this shocker: Newt Gingrich has been misleading (‘lying’) about the relative pay of NYC teachers and union janitors. As PolitiFact notes, an average first-year teacher makes about 1.4 more than a first-year worker who just mops the floors. From Politifact: “Cleaner: $15.77 per hour, or $32,801 for a full year. (First- and second-year employees are paid below the standard rate; in year three, it goes up to the standard rate of $18.13 an hour.)” Meanwhile, a first-year teacher with only a bachelor’s degree and no prior teaching experience is paid $45,530. Teachers with a master’s but no teaching experience start at $51,425. Custodial Engineers (or Standing Engineers) are a different story: They have to take care of boilers and other power plants, electrical and plumbing repairs, rod water lines, remove snow and ice, and do other hard physical labor, as well as clean up messes and routine maintenance. They also, as head of the maintenance staff, have to schedule work, deal with resupplying the school, and figure payroll. Plus, you have to have extensive experience and special training to be a Custodial Engineer. It’s no job for an inexperienced teenager. In NYC, C.E.’s start at $48,630 and go up to $55,625. Depending on the size of the school, the numbers of workers on the maintenance staff, and the responsibilites involved, an experienced senior Custodial Engineer can make up to $114,000 per year, but that’s rare. Face it — being an engineer is a tougher job than teaching and god forbid some kid lets the boilers die when the temps drop — you could lose the whole school. Of course, pompous, pampered elitist gasbag Gingrich has no idea what is involved with keeping a school running, just as he has no idea what it’s like to be poor.

“If you take one half of the New York janitors, who are paid more than the teachers. An entry-level janitor gets paid twice as much as an entry-level teacher. You take half those janitors, you could give lots of poor kids a work experience in the cafeteria, in the school library, in the front office, in a lot of different things. I’ll stand by the idea young people ought to learn how to work.”
— Newt Gingrich, talking straight out of his ass at the last GOP debate, via Raw Story.strong>

Hey, Mr. ‘Big Ideas’– what do those adults who support families do for jobs when they are replaced by kids? And what about the steep loss in tax revenue if this idiot plan is adopted nationwide?

What a Shock — GOP Can’t Find Even One Wealthy ‘Job Creator’

You’d think the Republicans would be able to scrape up some poor schmoe to be the poster boy for their talking-point buncombe that the top 1 Percent create jobs, but it was too much for them. As the saying goes, if tax cuts for the wealthy created jobs, we’d be awash in jobs right now. Think Progress has more details on yet another Republicon scam:

“…NPR requested help from numerous Republican congressional offices, including House and Senate leadership. They were unable to produce a single millionaire job creator for us to interview.”
— Tanya Somanader, “Republicans And Business Groups Unable To Find One ‘Job Creator’ Who Opposes A Tax On Millionaires,” Think Progress, Dec. 9, 2011.

Romney Won’t Provide Proof He Was a ‘Job Creator’

Of course he won’t, because he can’t. Despite his claims that he created “tens of thousands of jobs” when running Bain Capital, he actually exported American jobs overseas, he didn’t ‘create’ them here. Watching the Mittster on C-Span the other day, blowing smoke at reporters from the Des Moines Register, it occurred to me he looks just like the ‘respected’ surgeon in some TV drama whom the cops discover is selling illegal human organs on the side and pull him in for questioning. Romney’s nervous, sweaty affability is perfect for the role of the ‘doctor with a dark secret.’ No wonder even the flakes in the GOP base can’t stand him. Read more here:
