Today’s Music: Jack Teagarden, Jim Reeves, Isaac Hayes, Robert Plant

Called by some the ‘Father of the Jazz Trombone,’ Jack Teagarden was born today in 1905 (d. 1964).

Country star ‘Gentleman Jim’ Reeves was born this day in 1923 (d. 1964).

As well as helping to get Stax Records going, Isaac Hayes (Aug. 20, 1942-2008) was a solid soul performer in his own right. Here’s his most famous tune, “Shaft”:

Led Zeppelin’s lead singer Robert Plant was born today in 1948.
