Today’s Music: Lena Horne, Dave Van Ronk, Yngwie Malmsteen

Irreplaceable jazz vocalist and the definition of class Lena Horne was born today in 1917 (d. 2010). Here’s her signature tune from 1943:

Folk-bluesman and ‘Mayor of MacDougal Street’ Dave Van Ronk started singing the blues today in 1936. Before he passed away in 2002, he had influenced generations of musicians, including Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and Joni Mitchell.

Swedish guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen wailed his first on this day in 1963.
